About GMU

GreenHeart Medical University (GMU) is an independent institution of tertiary level education, Chartered by the government of Guyana with programs in Medicine, Nursing & Pharmacy.

Named after the famous rainforest tree of medicinal properties "Greenheart" and located in the historic city of Georgetown, Guyana, GreenHeart Medical University (GMU) started its operations in 2005 to address high needs of education in the field of Health Sciences in Guyana and the overall region.

Managed by a newly appointed Board of Directors under advisement of highly qualified Medical Educators, Administrators, and acclaimed Physicians, GreenHeart envisions itself towards becoming a regional leader in Health Care Education, Research & Services.

The University offers quality educational programs in health sciences, including in the field of medicine and nursing that integrates professional skills, career-focused education and hands-on practice, enabling our students to develop and achieve their personal and career potentials.

Our Educational Philosophy is to help our students understand the fundamentals of scientific principles in achieving scientific thinking. Keeping with the latest developments in the field of education, medical sciences, and research we constantly improve our curriculums with innovative educational products including early on integrated clinical exposure via Longitudinal Clinical Care Experiences.

Understanding competitions and challenges of professional field our students are facilitated by mentorship programs and focused preparations for different professional licensing examinations and screening tests including CAMC, USMLE, MCCQE, PLAB, MCI tests etc.

The university is constantly developing new partnerships and affiliations with leading institutions around the world involved in health sciences education and research towards the vision of becoming an internationally recognized regional research institution.
